The post How to: Be a Defensive Driver appeared first on Long Island Car Transport.
]]>At its essence, defensive driving is characterized by continuous attentiveness. This involves not just maintaining a steady grip on the steering wheel, but also staying updated on weather conditions that may affect driving. An attentive driver is more adept at responding to unforeseen hazards. This readiness facilitates quicker reactions, such as accelerating, braking, or maneuvering away from dangers, ultimately fostering safer conditions for everyone on the road.
The advantages of practicing defensive driving extend well beyond enhanced safety. One of the most notable benefits is the reduced likelihood of receiving traffic violations. Drivers who engage in defensive driving are typically better equipped to manage adverse weather, which can present significant challenges. Furthermore, this driving style helps prolong the lifespan of your vehicle by minimizing wear and tear. It also contributes to improved fuel efficiency, as smoother driving often results in better gas mileage.
Another key benefit is the reduction of stress associated with driving. Defensive driving promotes a more relaxed experience, stemming from a greater sense of control over the vehicle. Additionally, many car insurance companies offer discounts to drivers who complete defensive driving courses, providing a financial incentive for adopting these practices.
To practice defensive driving effectively, there are several key strategies to keep in mind. First and foremost, patience is essential. Avoiding speeding and practicing patience can significantly decrease the chances of an accident. Maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead is another critical practice. Tailgating, or following too closely, is a form of aggressive driving that heightens the risk of collisions. Keeping a safe buffer allows you ample time to react to sudden changes in traffic.
Safe passing techniques are also vital. When merging lanes, ensure there is sufficient space to avoid cutting off other drivers. Finally, regularly checking your mirrors is crucial, regardless of whether you’re changing lanes. Staying aware of your surroundings helps you respond promptly to any changes in traffic conditions.
Defensive driving is a proactive approach that emphasizes awareness, preparation, and safety. By adopting these techniques, not only can you enhance your driving experience, but you can also contribute to a safer environment for all road users. Embrace defensive driving, and you will find that it not only makes you a more skilled driver but also fosters a more enjoyable journey on the road.

]]>As August rolls in, car enthusiasts eagerly anticipate Monterey Car Week and the impressive car debuts it brings. Maserati has set the stage by releasing a sneak peek of its latest super sports car, slated for a grand unveiling at the event.
The details about this new model are scarce, with only one teaser photo available. Maserati describes the car as a “further evolution of the MC20,” emphasizing that it carries forward the racing spirit of the Maserati GT2. The GT2, originally a production MC20, transitions into something more racing-focused, though the new model does not bear the GT2 name.
Unlike the GT2 or the MCXtrema track car, this new model lacks a large front lip or dive planes. Instead, its front end closely resembles the standard road-ready MC20, hinting that the new vehicle will be suitable for street use.
This latest model is expected to feature the familiar twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 Nettuno engine, which delivers remarkable performance. In the regular coupe and convertible (Cielo) versions, this engine generates an impressive 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, propelling the coupe from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds according to tests.
Maserati plans to showcase the new model in all its glory at “The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering,” a key event during Monterey Car Week. This eagerly anticipated reveal is scheduled for Friday, August 16. Alongside the new model, Maserati will also display the MCXtrema and the limited-edition MC20 Icona, offering a thrilling glimpse into the brand’s cutting-edge innovations.

]]>When in the midst of excessive heat and blazing heat waves, weather organizations will issue varying levels of notification to identify where things are at in terms of the heat. Depending on the organization releasing them, the order of severity may change as well as the temperature definitions behind them, but the three most common notifications are excessive heat watch, a heat advisory, and an excessive heat warning. Be sure to check for these notifications in your area and confirm what that level means when coming from the source you choose.
Sometimes people, often with pets, forget that the loveable parts of our life that cannot quite verbalize for themselves how they are feeling feel the heat just as you do. This means babies and young kids as well as pets all feel the heat in the same way you do, sometimes even worse because they are often more sensitive to the heat. Do not leave them in cars or indoors without some sort of cooling system going.
This may be an overdone tip, but it is for good reason! Staying hydrated is the only way to remain safe and sound this summer. If you lack the proper hydration, everything else will crumble as the heat increases. Be sure to drink plenty of water and to do it properly. You want to spread out your water consumption in order to not internally drown yourself. Furthermore, make sure you get proper electrolytes as well. You can get these from sports drinks or supplements that you add to water.
Summer is the best time for outdoor activities but also the worst. Limit your sun exposure on particularly hot days. If you are unable to do that, be sure to double up on the hydration as you sweat and wear proper protection with sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats.

]]>You may be thinking, surely there is no way that the cleanliness of your car matters right? Right? Well, it actually does! The cleaner your car, the easier your overall auto transportation experience will be. This concept applies to both the outside and the inside of the vehicle. Having a clean exterior of your car allows for you to see any scuffs, scrapes, or bits of damage that you may otherwise miss. This then allows you to be aware of what kind of damage, if any at all, exists on your car pre-transit so that you can then easily identify any damage that may exist to your car after transit.
Cleaning the interior of your car really applies to organizing your car. You do not want to have any loose items that can move around willy nilly, putting the actual structure of your car at risk. With how your car moves around when being shipped, loose items are very likely to move around a bit, and depending on the road conditions, it could be quite aggressive. Prevent any risk to items or your car by not having things in your vehicle.
You want to identify that all fluid levels are right to be sure there is no leak. A leak could cause serious damage to the vehicle itself, the shipping vehicle, or even other vehicles being shipped with yours, so be sure to guarantee that no such issues arise. Furthermore, gas you actually want to be around ¼ of a tank. That leaves enough gas in case of an emergency but does not weigh down the car too much. Having a lower tank also limits the risk of a leak.

]]>Open air auto transportation is our number one auto transportation service. Using a truck and trailer combination, we ship your vehicle on a trailer that does not have any sides, only bottom support, and support railings on the side. This may sound nerve-wracking to you, but we assure you that your car will be safe and sound in this shipping style! With this shipping style, the only issue to even have to consider is the fact that your car will be exposed to the open air and, as such, the natural elements. That is to say that your vehicle will be out in the rain, heat, wind, etc., while in transit. However, all of these things are the exact same things your car would be at risk of if you were to drive it yourself too, so your car is at no additional harm because of our open auto transportation!
Now, like we said, open air auto transportation is our number one service. However, if you own a vehicle that is more for show than anything, or only driven in specific instances and want to keep it away from nature, then we suggest our enclosed auto transportation! For example, for those who own luxury vehicles such as sports cars, vintage cars, or anything for a collection, you may feel more comfortable with this style of shipping. Your vehicle is kept inside of a trailer that has four sides, keeping it away from natural elements. However, everyone can use this shipping method, not just these specific car owners. If you want to give your car that extra layer of protection, give us a call today!

]]>The Chinese celebration of Lunar New Year, which is considered the most famous, is believed to go as far back as the Shang Dynasty, who lived in China in 14th century B.C. Historians believe specifically that Emperor Wu of Han is who implemented celebrations of the first day of the new Chinese calendar year. Traditionally, the celebration also stood as a celebration of the harvest and a way to worship the gods in order to ask for good future harvests.
In the Cultural Revolution of 1967, New Year celebrations were banned in China. Over time, the leaders of the time were more willing to continue with traditional celebrations. Eventually, celebrations grew again to the point of a weeklong holiday vacation being given starting in 1996 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The celebration is now referred to as the Spring Festival.
The food of the holiday is very important and often symbolic. Dumplings are eaten because they look like money bags and symbolize fortune and prosperity. Long noodles are eaten to symbolize a long, healthy life. Fish is usually eaten in the meal, especially in the last course because the Chinese pronunciation for the word meaning fish is the same as the word meaning surplus/abundance, so fish symbolizes an abundance of wealth and luck. Oranges are also a very large part of the celebrations, as they represent good luck and success.
The Chinese Lunar New Year festivities usually end with a Lantern Festival. This includes grand displays which consist of parades, games, fireworks, and more!

]]>The Christmas tree in the Rockefeller Plaza is probably one of the most famous trees around. It is always grandiose in scale and even has a televised tree lighting ceremony. Located between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, you absolutely have to make the trek to go take a look at the tree anytime you are in New York for the holidays!
This high precision, high kicking dance troupe is nearly synonymous with Christmas for many people. They put on excellent shows in the holiday season, even entertaining the masses with an annual live choreographed number during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. With shows starting in mid-November, through early January, you simply must see them perform if you are around the city then!
Window shopping is a key factor in any sort of metropolitan area, but especially in New York City at Christmastime. The big department stores all famously put on massive holiday window displays. Stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, and all of the other big names up and down Fifth Avenue go to the nines for their window displays.
The Winter Village at Bryant Park offers a great experience for all, from an ice skating rink to holiday shopping. The ice skating rink has famously been featured in numerous New York centered holiday films and provides a great scene for those looking to have a true winter wonderland experience!

]]>One such add on accessory has to do with the wheel. Many have been starting to put decals on the wheel, either in just the center spot or over the vehicle’s maker logo. The decals are often some sort of plastic plate, commonly seen covered in rhinestones, glitter, and other sparkling decorations. The risk has actually been shown to be so severe that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a statement earlier this week advising drivers to not purchase these or remove them from their wheel if they already have them on.
Now you may be thinking, what do these decals have to do with the airbag? Well, if the airbag does need to be deployed, it would burst through the decals and most likely the adhesive of the decals would break and the accessory itself would break into smaller bits. This runs a risk as, in a car crash scenario with the air bag deploying, the force would cause the broken accessory to hit the driver. The pieces would act as sharp, little projectiles. Depending on where these then hit the driver, they could cause severe damage, even being fatal.
Furthermore, the interruption to the airbag’s typical pathway, pressure, and force could cause the airbag to malfunction and not act properly. If this happens, it also could cause severe damage, even fatality.
The driver that has a NHTSA reported incident lost sight in one eye due to rhinestones from the décor piece getting lodged in her eye. This happened when the airbag deployed shattered the plate, which sent the rhinestones flying around.
The NHTSA has stated that the less expensive these products are, the higher risk they pose. While they advise avoiding any such accessory piece for your vehicle, they strongly suggest against ones found on Amazon, Etsy, Shein, and Temu.

]]>But you may now be concerned if you are not much of a driver yourself, or worried the roads will be like New York City streets. Firstly, the roads are not like New York City at all. Most are decently paved, but there are also a good amount of gravel and dirt roads. Secondly, there is no better time than now to become a better driver and gain more comfort on the road!
When getting ready to drive on the island, you first need to understand its shape. It genuinely is a long island. It is about 5 times longer in length than in width. Driving in the east or west directions is fairly straightforward and easy to do, but north and south are different stories. The roads that travel in this direction are not as easily accessible, meaning if you miss one, it may be a bit until you get to your other one. When driving east or west, there are some guidelines to follow. Generally, if possible, avoid driving west in the morning during rush hour. You will be hit by commuter traffic going to the city. Furthermore, if possible, avoid driving east during evening traffic, as you will get hit by commuter traffic coming back.
Long Island has both types of roadways. Parkways are limited to only passenger license plates as they are scenic routes. Inversely, the two expressways on the island are open to both passenger and commercial traffic.

]]>This may seem like an unnecessary step, but we highly recommend giving your car a wash before we pick it up for shipping. A freshly washed vehicle will help you to identify any prior damage to the car such as scratches, paint chips, and discoloration. This will then make it easier for you to notice any damage that could potentially happen in transit.
This includes any add-ons, such as custom stereos, DVD players, front and rear cameras, dash cameras, etc. By removing these, you eliminate the chances of theft and damage. Oftentimes thieves break into a car when they see something of value through the window. Removing all valuable items removes this enticer, keeping your car safe again.
A loose piece in your car would be something like if you listen to the car radio and have an antenna. We suggest you remove the antenna and leave it behind, put it in the trunk, or keep it with you. Similarly, you have to fold in the rearview mirrors. This is to secure any piece of the car that could easily get hit or broken off while in transit.
If you see anything be sure to take a photo and mark it on the Bill of Lading (BOL).
We will ship your vehicle whether it is running or non-running. Either way, you need to report to us what the vehicle’s functionality is. If there are any mechanical issues (leaks, damaged battery), it may slow down the shipping process as we will have to take care of the issue for you. Either way, we will still ship it nonetheless, so there is nothing but an easier shipping process for you if you notify us in advance.
For the safety of your vehicle, we recommend providing our drivers with an extra set of keys. This will be beneficial because if any reason arises where the driver needs to get inside your car, they will be able to without having to force their way in.
