Though spring weather is easier on cars than winter, it’s still a good time to pay attention to your car’s status. After all, winter tends to damage cars and leave them running worse than before. So as the weather warms up and you start wanting to get out more, use these tips to keep your car in top shape:
Check Your Tires
Cold weather affects any process in your car that involves pressure (which is a lot of them!). Tire pressures decrease in the cold as the air in your tires becomes denser. And if your tires are underinflated, you could be tanking your fuel economy or damaging your vehicle. You may even want to look into getting winter-specific tires for those chilly New York winters.
Check Your Body
All the salt on the road could be sticking to your car’s body, causing harmful corrosion. While it may not be appealing to wash your car in the freezing cold, once the weather warms up, it’s a good time to get your car washed, waxed, and detailed. This can lengthen the life of your body and leave it looking much nicer to boot. And of course, you should take all precautions to keep your car looking nice and beautiful.
Change Your Filter
Spring is allergy season, and if you’re prone to allergies, you may want to replace your air filter. After all, it’s not fun at all to be sneezing the whole way to and from work. It’s also a good time to check your engine’s filter, as your car needs clean air too.
Watch the Road
Winter weather tends to damage roads just as much, if not more, than vehicles. The roads get no break from the elements, and get all the same wear and tear as usual. So as you’re getting out on the road, be extra vigilant for potholes, puddles, and other hazards. The roads will get cleaned up eventually, but in the interim, you have to pick up the slack.
