Jimmy Fallon, is looking to move to a home that he bought over in Sagaponack. The legendary Tonight Show host, funnyman extraordinaire, and genius impressionist previously had his first apartment, a one-bedroom bachelor pad in a famed co-op building. It is located in Gramercy Park. He bought it in 2002 for $850,000. Nearly two decades later, he and his wife, Nancy Juvonen, a creative person in her own right, are putting their six-bedroom penthouse, on the market for $15 million.
A Distinctive Flair and Taste for Interior Design
The apartment which diverse and colorful literally detonates with personality. Over more than a decade from combining four units which are piecing together approximately 5,000-square-foot-space. It is packed with nooks and crannies, cubbyholes, narrow corridors, and secret passageways. Covered in art is almost every wall, including the insides of cupboards and closets, from paintings of the couple’s favorite people to vintage wallpaper from the 1920s through the 1960s.
Jimmy Fallon Made a Wise Investment Buying the Gramercy Park Penthouse
Fallon bought his first apartment in the building. He was close to the end of his huge run on “Saturday Night Live.” Fallon also became a presence and fixture in the movie business. At the time, his boss, SNL producer Lorne Michaels, was persuading him to buy the place. Gramercy Park was a definitive choice for him though he could not afford it at the time.
Golden-Screen Era Actors Previously Owned the Apartment
A redbrick property built-in 1883, it was a subject of great fascination with a rich history. It had been home to the actors James Cagney (“Public Enemy” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy” are among his many illustrious acting credits) and Margaret Hamilton (starring as the infamous and unforgettable Wicked Witch in the perennial classic “Wizard of Oz).
Fallon, as a single man, was urged by a friend to hire an interior designer to decorate the space. Later, his wife later likened astutely it to an old man’s apartment, with dark drapes and lots of maroon.
Jimmy Fallon and His Wife Nancy Expand and Add Units
In 2007, when they got married, Fallon and his wife Nancy adding adjacent units when neighbors left the building. Then, she took over the decorating. In 2014, they purchased their most recent unit. It was on the building’s top floor, for $725,000. The total spends for five apartments to approximately $5.8 million. Their plan was to keep one small unit at the building.
Joint Discussion to Make Other Home Their Base
The Fallons are selling the apartment because, after months of spending time at their house in Sagaponack, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it makes sense to them make the suburbs their base. Jimmy Fallon wants to commute to work in the city. In fact, they are just the current New York family to make this type of lifestyle change amid the COVID-19 upheaval.
New York City will Rise Mightly Again!
Fallon says he believes in the city’s recovery despite his move. He is optimistic and positive about it saying: “I’m a lifelong New Yorker; you’ll still see me at restaurants, Knicks games, and Broadway shows,” he said. “My job is here, my studio is here and a piece of my heart is here. My life will still revolve around this city.”
